My Art Focus for this Year

January Recap

Hello πŸ™‚ It's finally the weekend again. Feels good.
Hope you're doing well and doing something you enjoy.

It's already almost the end of January and by now everyone has already forgotten the goals and plans they set during the New Year, haha.

Do you feel like that?

I'll share with you a bit about my January so far..

In the beginning, I set a few focuses for this year and this time, I tried to keep things super simple (because it's too easy for me to overdo it and complicate everything).

This year I will focus on my art first. Everything else follows that.

And my art this year will be only a few subjects like:

  1. Cats
  2. Owls
  3. Scenes & People from my Travels

Now I feel I always have things to draw or paint, something to work on. I don't really need to figure much out.

I feel focused and limiting my subjects like this can help me to build a "style" or just be known for certain things. Plus, I'm interested in all these subjects, so I don't have to force myself to do anything.

So far this year, I've done a bunch of livestreams of me drawing cats and many sketches. They've been so much fun to do :)

I recently was contacted to do 2 commissions of realistic & detailed cat portraits and I'm currently working on those. You can see the start of it on my recent livestream here: Drawing a Realistic Cat Portrait [Pt. 1] - Drawing Cats #09

Here's a work in progress photo of it, at about 50% of the way done:

Somehow I've been able to stay on track this January and not fall off, which feels good.

But don't feel bad if you've lost sight or haven't found time to do what you planned or wanted to do. See this email as a reminder to keep going and try again.

It's never too late to start again and continue on the path πŸ™‚

Or even re-evaluate what you initially planned and start over. I'm guilty of always thinking I can do so much but the reality ends up being much different haha.

Anyway, I can't wait to share more of my art and journey with you this year. Lots more to come, I feel as if I haven't even started yet haha.

Enjoy your week :)

This Week's Videos:

I actually had 2 videos this week, so I'll share both here so you can choose what appeals more to you.

In this video, I chat about perfectionism and how I try to think about my art now.

Painting & Language Learning Hey, how are you? I've been good :) Just painting and dealing with life & all its challenges. Learning to paint is almost like learning a new language, except it's a visual language rather than a spoken one. And there's no words either. Something you may not know is that for the past 4 years now, I've been learning a 2nd language. I started out slowly and it took me a while to figure out what I even needed to learn or what to focus on. I'm learning Malay, which...

New Watercolor Paintings Hey there, I hope you're doing well :) Let's talk about March. March was a month full of focus and painting for me. I was somehow able to create 58 paintings - almost 2 per day. But not all of them were good, that's for sure. I haven't shared any of my new paintings yet with anyone, so I thought I'd share some of them here first with my newsletter readers. These are my top 10 favorites from all the paintings I created. I'll share some close-ups in a minute so you can...
